... last July cycling from London to Dunwich on the Suffolk Coast (120miles/200km). The ride is called the "Dunwich dynamo" and they set off about 9pm in the evening and cycle through the night to arrive at sunset and a swim in the sea. Kathryn had never ridden that far before but was motivated to raise funds for Yushu after the earthquake last April.
Kathryn taught at the ROKPA School in Yushu in 2003 and so wanted to do something to help.
She raised £850.
to help single mothers who have been abused and/or abandoned and left to bring up their children alone. They usually end up living on the streets.
Susie is a qualified complementary therapist and decided to use her skills together with some of her friends to do an Aromathon. They spent the day giving taster sessions in aromatherapy, Indian head massage, reflexology and Tarot card readings. There were a lot of very relaxed people around the Village of Eskdalemuir that day and the amount raised was over £350.
Alf and Jake, aged 5 & 7 did a seven mile sponsored bike ride for one of our orphanages and raised £145.00 - how inspiring is that?
Another way of helping ROKPA is by having a Collection Tin in your shop/clinic/office etc.
Mark Ralston has had collection tins for a few years now in his Post Office and Shop in Tyne & Wear and last year alone raised over £1,000. The generosity of his customers has enabled ROKPA to continue helping those in need.
Seen below are: staff member Liela and customer Tommy; staff member Lisa and 6th form students from St Joseph's School, Hebburn; and Mark himself with customer Margaret.
We also have had a glut of very brave people jumping out of aeroplanes! Raising money for various projects - Looks like fun!!!!
