Dear ROKPA Friends and Supporters,

Important News from ROKPA UK Overseas Projects

The Trustees of ROKPA Trust have decided that, from 1 January 2017, ROKPA UK Overseas Projects will no longer be collecting funds for the current range of projects in Tibet, Nepal and Zimbabwe.

Instead we will be focusing on the high priority area of Dolma Lhakang in Tibet and operating as the Akong Memorial Foundation.

Conditions in the Dolma Lhakang region are exceptionally harsh, even by Tibetan standards. At 15,000 feet above sea level very little grows and the ground is frozen for up to 8 months a year. During his lifetime Akong Rinpoche took great care to support the monks and nuns at Dolma Lhakang Monastery, and, since the Monastery is the lifeline for local people, the surrounding nomadic community was also well looked after. Since Akong Rinpoche's passing in 2013, however, we have become aware of an urgent need for our support.

Initially, we will be focusing on three project areas:-

  • providing essential schooling, an old people's home and medical care for the local community;
  • making sure that the monks and nuns are properly fed; warmly clothed and healthy;
  • improving/expanding accommodation, and other building works at Dolma Lhakang Monastery;

and, in time, we may expand our activities, as need and our resources dictate.

As part of ROKPA Trust, we will be continuing our work from the same office here at Samye Ling and our contact details and bank account will stay the same.

OPTIONS FOR GIVING, FROM 1 JANUARY 2017

You can support our work in the Dolma Lhakang region through the Akong Memorial Foundation by clicking here

And/or

You can continue to support the current range of ROKPA projects through ROKPA International by clicking here or by emailing rokpa.gb@rokpa.org for details of a new UK-based charity that Lea Wyler is in the process of establishing.  To avoid any possible confusion, please note that the ROKPA GB charity is not part of ROKPA Trust and is based in London (not Samye Ling).

However you choose to support the vast, compassionate vision of the late Dr Akong Tulku Rinpoche, we can assure you that your donations will be put to very good use and we thank you for your invaluable contribution towards making the world a better place for all of us.

With all good wishes,
